After seeing something similar in a shop window, I wanted one for a dark corner of our dining room and this fits the space really well. Close up, the glass pieces have slight variations that make it feel more handmade than perfectly factory-finished, which I actually prefer. At night it has a much warmer look than I expected from the photos and creates a lovely little pool of light on the cabinet.
My daughter bought me one for my birthday after I had pointed it out months ago, and it is now on my bedside table. Rather than lighting the whole room, it gives just enough gentle light for winding down before bed and looks decorative when turned off as well. Friends who have seen it in person have asked where it came from, which says a lot.
What surprised me most was how substantial it feels when you pick it up; it does not come across as a flimsy novelty lamp at all. Once switched on, the different colours show up beautifully and make a nice softer light beside the sofa. Packaging was also better than expected, so everything arrived safely with no damage.
Originally, I bought this for the little table in our hallway, but it has ended up in the sitting room because everyone comments on it. During the day the coloured glass is lovely on its own, while in the evening the light gives off a warm glow without being too bright. Even my husband, who usually notices none of my home bits, said it makes the room feel cosier.
I really like the lamp, it adds colour without looking too fussy, and the elephant shape is noticeable without taking over the whole room. Overall, I am pleased with the size, the finish and the gentle glow, especially when we have the main lights off in the evening.
